Why teach ?

A quick response to

Letter from a teacher” by John C. Crowley

Letter from a teacher, makes some amazing points that all teachers must understand. First of all teaching is a bittersweet profession. There are days in which you may feel like you can change the world. Then days that you can’t change a thing. This is the reality of teaching. Next, the letter promotes reflection of why you teach. Remember why you teach, the reason will change, as you do, but remember why. Anyone can teach, not everyone can be a professional teacher. If you teach because you cannot think of anything else you are in the wrong place. Teach because you love it. Remember, you don’t know everything. As you teach you learn and as you learn you teach. Be a life-long learner. Lastly, care about your students and what they are going through. As teachers we have to care. Sometimes we are the only ones who will.

This letter emphasizes the qualities that make a great teacher. As stated earlier anyone can teach, not everyone can be a teacher. This is especially true for me. I don’t just want to teach, I want to be a great teacher. I don’t want to change the world, just one classroom, one school, one life.
